As it has been said before the tusks do gro into their cheeks, causing discomfort and sometimes infection.I have found if you can do it yourself its better for yor pig. There has been some instances where a pig has died at the hands of a vet, only because hes scared,he screams and he could swallow part of the tusk, sometimes going to the lungs. But then again your vet may knock him out which isnt good either.I found by using a pair of hoof trimmers and while I'm rubbbing hig belly and he,s calm I,ll trim.Works well and he.s not stressed.
