516. PedigreeFrom: paheartlnd@aol.com (Joan) 516.1. CommentsSadly, the brief history of potbellied pets(1985 introduced in USA) has gone the way of dogs and cats---abandonment and discarded after novelty wears off.. The upside however has been the formation of non-profit sanctuaries to provide life-long care for homeless companion animals. I will be glad to provide list of non-profit sanctuaries who operate for the 'benefit of pigs and not for 'human gains'. A good breeder of potbellies today will not sell unneutered females and intact boars---that is one criteria of an ethical breeder--and limit breeding schedules as a means to control population.. The literature supports the fact that companion pigs are highly socialized and if owners are away from the home a good part of the day that a second companion pig in the home will alleviate boredom and loneliness in a single pet-pig home. Have a good day---Joan |
