8. Re: aggressionFrom: 8.1. Commentsthis is normal pig behavior. the baby is a new member of the herd over whom your pig is attempting to establish dominance. first of all, of course, don't give her the opportunity to bite again until you sense that she has accepted the baby. does she show aggression toward visitors at all? does she have a reasonable amount of outside play time? priscilla valentine has a good book on pig behavioral problems - i think her site is called www.valentinesperformingpigs.com but i'm not sure, so if not, just do a search. www.mini-pigs.org is a very resourceful site re potbellied pigs and their care. my guess is that you would have to treat this situation as tho she were challenging you and intervene on the baby's behalf by shoving the pig back on the shoulder and saying no firmly. try to study your pig to be alert to her posture just before she's going to charge. with mine, they generally stand very still, focused, with their head up from the ground but slightly lowered and their tail still. please don't give up. this is a very solveable problem. |
