Has the vet x-rayed him yet to see if there is a blockage? He is probably also dehydrated and that alone could cause the urinary deficiency. An x-ray and blood work are definitely in order. We had a pig recently who came down with osteomylitis which affected the distal end of the spinal column. She lost the ability to move her tail and also lost the ability to urinate properly and move her bowels since she could not dilate her anus....that is also a possibility, but I would most likely suspect a blockage somewhere in the intestines...if not found and fixed soon I suspect the intestines will rupture and the pig will die. If your vet is not knowledgeable about potbellies either find someone who is, have him contact your state university department of veterinary medicine or have him call a vet who is knowledgeable. Our sanctuary vet is available for consultations if he wants to call him and talk to him about the pig......but the first thing my vet is going to want to know is what the x-rays showed..... |
